Open Methodology

Why it matters

One lab building a few dozen good buildings changes nothing at planetary scale. Knowledge that spreads on its own does. That arithmetic is why our manifesto commits its fifth principle without hedging: our findings belong to the commons. The climate crisis is a race where hoarding methods is self-defeat. Every design decision locked in a drawer is a mistake someone else must now pay to repeat. Openness is also the honesty mechanism: published reasoning can be attacked, corrected, and improved by anyone. That is precisely what makes it trustworthy. None of this threatens the craft. The technologies of autonomous building are largely public domain already. What people pay for — and should — is composing them for a real site, real climate, real family. Open methodology and paid expertise reinforce each other: publishing the method makes the expertise verifiable. In our experience, it also brings the requests in.

Role in 001's holistic picture

This very wiki is open methodology. The Living Lab supplies what's worth sharing, First-Principles Engineering makes the reasoning shareable (chains of logic instead of black boxes), replication is the intended consequence, Open Home Automation carries the principle into software, and the methodology itself is the connective tissue of the wider Eco-Community movement. Even our failures publish. That may be the most radical clause.

How 001 engages with it

The commitment is visible at every scale. ShowerLoop was built from an openly published design and deployed in the field. The channel runs the other way too. After a public presentation of House 001 at Urban Space in Ivano-Frankivsk, a listener approached us. They wanted the same autonomy for a village home. That request became the Ablution Block, an autonomous hygiene module directly inspired by 001's design and approach. The customer funded it. Our innovation models carry an explicit disclaimer: frameworks developed by 001, not patented or registered IP. The publication series airs entire arguments: the sanitation article documents a debate lost to a bio-septic, and the heating article reverses its own geothermal verdict. The water-supply article publishes its two research dead ends with the same care as its conclusions. Pond water for household supply is the chief one. And Foundation itself is the open map through which others can join the work: planned-page stubs, researched-tier invitation CTAs.

Maturity: validated. Years of published methods, arguments, and failures. This wiki is the principle's largest artifact to date.
